Relocation of Kyle’s Historic Oak Tree Underway Soon

Kyle is preparing to move one of its longstanding natural landmarks—a 51-inch live oak known as the Old Stagecoach Heritage Oak. The relocation is part of a larger project to widen and improve Old Stagecoach Road and Center Street, and the city is taking steps to preserve this important tree.

What’s Changing

  • In February, the Kyle City Council voted (6–1) in favor of relocating the oak to make way for a voter-approved road bond project that will widen Old Stagecoach Road to four lanes.

  • The relocation is planned for a city-owned site in the 6 Creeks Subdivision, where the tree will be preserved and maintained in a small park setting.

  • The road improvement consists of three segments:
    • North portion of Old Stagecoach (FM 2770 to Six Creeks Boulevard)
    • Old Stagecoach (Six Creeks Boulevard to Center Street)
    • Center Street (Old Stagecoach to FM 150)

  • The city has allocated $932,800 for the tree’s relocation and ongoing care, mostly funded by developer contributions tied to the road project.

  • The actual move is expected to begin later this fall, with care continuing through fall 2027.

Why It Matters for Homeowners

  • The oak tree is more than just scenery—it’s part of Kyle’s identity and heritage. Preserving it helps maintain a sense of place and continuity as the town develops.

  • The road improvements will affect traffic flow, commute times, and access to surrounding neighborhoods.

  • Homeowners near Old Stagecoach or Center Street could see changes in noise, landscaping, and property aesthetics as infrastructure evolves.

  • The $932,800 commitment shows the city is serious about balancing growth with preservation—this can build community confidence in future developments.

Other Highlights

  • The oak will be moved to a nearby site within Kyle city property (so it stays local).

  • Once relocated, the site is planned to become a small park, offering residents a place to enjoy the landmark.

  • The improvement project is tied to a voter-approved bond, showing community support for infrastructure expansion.

  • While the move is planned for this fall, post-relocation care will extend through 2027 to ensure the tree thrives in its new location.

Final Thoughts

Relocating the Old Stagecoach Heritage Oak is a thoughtful step by Kyle: making room for vital road improvements while honoring the city’s legacy. For homeowners, it’s a reminder that growth doesn’t have to come at the expense of character. As infrastructure evolves, preservation—done well—can create stronger, more connected communities.
